Where is Goodsky located?
We run our depression treatment programmes out of Marcoola Beach on the Sunshine Coast, QLD, but our treatment teams are setup all over the coast. That way we can make our program more affordable as we utilise professional practice facilities and teams instead of one large treatment centre.
Can I come to your depression treatment programme right away?
We can begin your programme right away however the residential phase of the program is typically a 2-4 week wait. However, in this time period we can begin treatment and testing from our psychotherapy, medical and biochemical nutrition teams. This will assist in stabilising your systems and get you in a better place before you arrive.
What does the mental health retreat cost?
Each programme we build is tailored to meet your needs and is based on the assessment and tests results during our discovery (testing) phase .
How long can I stay at Goodsky for?
The residential phase of a program is typically 2-3 weeks, however we do extend stays should you benefit from further treatment and interaction from the teams. We offer 2-3 weeks as we can get everything done in this time. Traditional addiction programs that offer mental health on the side run on a 28 day model which drag on and go longer than necessary. However, you may also wish to stay longer if you simply just need the rest and downtime to get back on your feet. You can enjoy the benefits of your customised diet and learn more about cooking and nutrition while getting out to the beaches and surrounding areas to keep up your stretches and exercises. If we have availability and you wish to stay longer just let us know and we can arrange an extension.
How long does a depression treatment program run for?
The complete depression treatment programme is 14 weeks and has discovery and lifestyle integrations phases in addition to the residential stay. Typically discovery is 2-4 weeks (with treatment starting immediately) and lifestyle integration 8 weeks. These can vary due to your needs and the level of support you require to get back to good health.
I have private health insurance, what does it cover?
That will depend on your level of cover and what you have used throughout a financial year. There are a few treatment components in the programmes that private health can cover and they are Osteopathy, Exercise Physiology, Psychotherapy and Counselling, Dietetics and Remedial Massage. While most insurance is not extensive you can claim back on these once you have received the receipts. We will provide these where possible or the individual therapist will send them to you.
Am I going to a retreat with other people?
No. What makes us different is that Goodsky is an exclusive program with private accomodation and no group therapy whatsoever. This program has been designed to ensure that you can access our teams and not have to deal with other people who may distract you and compromise your treatment and experience. We offer a quiet private beach side apartments with resort features and beach access that allows us to deliver a personalised depression treatment program tailored to your needs. Private beach houses are also available.
What do I eat while I'm staying on program?
Nutrition and diet is a major component of lifestyle medicine and treating depression and anxiety effectively. Our team creates a menu based on your needs but more importantly based on your pathology and test results. This allows us to assist your gut restoration and remove any road blocks to treatments. Your meals are prepared and delivered daily to your apartment together with snacks and smoothies if your treatment protocol allows for it.
How do I get to my appointments while I am on program?
Most therapies will come to you in your residence but we also have a great guest support team that will drive you to see members of the team within their private practice close to your accomodation.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes and at no extra accommodation cost. We have found that a solid support person is a great help when doing our programs. Your apartment has a second bedroom so you can bring someone who you know will be there for you. Please bear in mind that a support person does not come to treatment sessions at the apartment or at clinics and should be someone who wont interfere with your progress. Please note that there is an additional charge for food. We encourage your support person to be on the same diet so that their choice of food doesn't interfere with your mental health recovery protocols.
Why do you do a pre-residential for the depression treatment?
Pre-residential treatment, support and testing is vital in learning more about your condition, getting you help with the right therapists and find the cause of your conditions with thorough testing and diagnostics. In this time we also gather consented past information and history from you GP and or therapists to learn more about your case in order to aid your treatment and case manage your outcomes.
What does Goodsky not offer?
We do not detox or manage quick withdrawal from heavy drug (illicit/pharmaceutical) or alcohol use while on the residential programme
We do not provide critical or acute in-patient care - we recommend this be done in a private hospital before beginning our programme. We can recommend some hospital programmes.
How does a depression treatment programme differ from a health retreat?
That's because we are different and for many reasons. Our programme focuses on private and individual lifestyle medicine assessments, treatments and integrations. We have 3 phases of each programme (excluding home program) that firstly:
learns about what you are dealing with and collects data and testing to understand what is contributing to your condition while supporting you with the correct therapy and therapist.
secondly we bring you to the Sunshine Coast for further assessments, pathology and continued treatment to help stabilise, recover, balance and shift mindsets, nutrition, gut health and restoration, movement and strength and begin transition in to the next phase.
that being the lifestyle integration once you are back home for ongoing support and treatment.
So if you were to go to a traditional retreat or rehab you would not receive this level of private, integrated and shared care from a team of mental health professionals. In addition to all of that when you stay with us you are staying in your own beach side self contained apartment that is completely private. You won't have to deal with any other guests and can focus on your recovery and treatment.
Why are there different phases of treatment, can't I just attend the programme?
As mentioned in some of our previous questions we have different phases of the programme that serve a role in making sure you get the best depression treatment possible. In order for that to happen we need to find out what is happening biochemically, nutritionally, physically and mentally.
We also begin therapy, testing and some treatment as soon as possible to get you stabilised and supported. This all happens within the first couple of weeks before you arrive on the Sunshine Coast. Test results typically take 2-3 weeks to return from the lab so to ensure that the teams know what they are dealing with we need this time to ensure the best treatment of your conditions.
Is supplementation used and do I have to buy them?
We use specific and practitioner grade supplementation to address and treat the immediate issues presented during diagnostics and testing. This can be gut health and digestion, hormones and genetics, vitamin and mineral deficiencies and much more.
Supplementation is included in your program and can begin from the outset once your team identifies triggers for your anxiety and depression, and depending on dosage and the length of your program, you will have enough supplements to see you through your treatment and early stages of lifestyle integration. However, this is different for everyone and in some cases we may need to order pharmacy grade compounded medicine and supplementation to treat parasites and other identified issues.
The main purpose of supplementation in our lifestyle medicine approach is to treat and shift you into a transition of food as medicine. The right food and fuel for your body takes over from the supplementation, effectively treating your depression and anxiety long term.
